SpiderOak has nice staff, but a terrible and buggy product. They care about your experience, they really do, but surprisingly they never seem to find acceptable solutions to your problems. On the positive side, the staff is nice and responsive and they really do try to help you when you open a ticket.

At least they gave me one year free after they had to wipe my account clean. It took me a little over 1 year to upload that TB. I have always had terrible upload speeds, so I was not happy with this, but I decided to give it a chance, just to be disappointed again. When I contacted SpiderOak the only solution they could give me was to wipe my account clean and start from scratch. I remember I set up my computer and it had to sync 1TB of data. The bigger your backup grows, the more the client chokes and slows down. I was with them about 2 years before I decided to leave (I started with 1TB, and then upgraded it to “unlimited” one time they made the offer). SpiderOak is one of the worst backup systems I have used. It was like 3-10 seconds in between downloading files. The desktop downloads partially worked at best, not finishing, and were extremely slow. I tried repeatedly getting desktop downloads to work on separate machines without any success. They wanted logs to diagnose what was going on, but loading a folder on the website taking 4-5 minutes is a pretty good indication their service doesn't scale. Support agreed with me that the number of files was an issue (like 1-2 million?). I ended the subscription before the year ended. Anyway, has someone had a positive experience with SpiderOak restores? This is abysmal. I probably should have just done a new machine since it's taking a while. I'm going through the syndication process on Machine #2 (gaming) right now after deleting the app data. This machine hadn't even really been backing stuff up. Oh, and I realized the SpiderOak database was taking up 16-17 GB.

So, I went into AppData/Local/SpiderOak and deleted the folder. I just realized that it didn't have the most recent version of my files in the file tree. I tried reinstalling (without a restart) on Machine #2 (gaming computer).

I think the download was ongoing, but the UI keeps crashing with this particular (small) restore. ^ SpiderOak keeps crashing with this small restore. I'm doing the same restore on Crashplan, and it's at least gotten most of the photos (2.6 GB, 4200 photos) after an hour. I'm trying to restore ~4 GB of photos (5700 files), and it's sitting there doing nothing. I'll try some bigger files, but the IO being this slow is intolerable. These are like 200-500 KB images, and it's under 20 MB so far. The machine backing up can restore, although slowly. I'm going to try reinstalling on this machine. I have tried restoring multiple times on a machine not doing the backups with 7.0.1. But now, I get nothing.Įdit 1: I opened a ticket before this post. I tried a restore a while ago, and I was getting decent download speeds (like 10-40 mbps?). I've tried even one small file (3-4 MB), and it just sits there for hours and never does anything.ĪFAIK, the backup part has worked well (even with network drives) the last 8 months or so, even if it is slow (1-2 megabytes/s). I can't get the restore to work via desktop app. These are personal files being backed up. The stuff that's actively backed up is < 1TB. Bought 1 year of SpiderOak One for $150 ($12.50 per month), I believe.Just make sure to tag the post with the flair and give a little background info/context.
